GGA Software Services: Scientific Big Data Solutions for the BioPharma Industry

Bob Kramich, Chief Commercial Officer
A plethora of data is created in every step of drug creation right from conceptualization to getting the final product to market. As billions of dollars are spend during the process from research and development through manufacturing, and pharmaceutical companies focus on introducing their product to market as quickly, and safely as possible, every point of this data genomic data, imaging, proteomic data, clinical data and drug toxicity information becomes vital. However, a big part of this data is generally ignored or lost due to insufficient scientific domain experience or inefficient processes, and technologies. GGA Software Services, with over 20 years of expertise in scientific data analytics, data management, algorithm development, content curation and visualization, helps companies derive intelligence from a sea of data they produce and speed up the R&D cycle, to substantially lower cost and increase accuracy.

Headquartered in Cambridge, MA, GGA Software Services derives its name from the names of three of its cofounders— Richard Golob, Vitaly Aronov and Yuriy Gankin. The company offers broad capabilities in outsourced scientific informatics systems development and related services. “The secret sauce of our success is our ability to combine broad and deep scientific domain knowledge with applied mathematics and software ,scientific domain knowledge with applied mathematics and software, engineering skills,” says Bob Kramich, Chief Commercial Officer, GGA Software Services.

We combine world-class informatics and support services with deep domain expertise in science and mathematics to create solutions that impactfully address our clients’ technical and scientific business challenges

GGA offers services to its clients in four broad categories— Scientific software engineering and testing, big data solutions, collaboration and knowledge management, and support and maintenance. Propelled by a metrics-driven, results oriented approach, the company builds breakthrough technologies with its full-time team of employees comprising doctors and scientists. “We hire the best of all talents available in the market. More than 95 percent of our workforce holds a Master degree and more than 50 percent have earned PhDs. This is one of the reasons why we are able to generate intelligence from such a sea of structured or unstructured data,” adds Kramich.

Global pharmaceutical, medical device, scientific instrumentation, and scientific publishing companies rely on GGA to provide ongoing chemical and bioinformatics services as an enhancement to their internal employee resources. “We combine world-class informatics and support services with deep domain expertise in science and mathematics to create solutions that impactfully address our clients’ technical and scientific business challenges,” says Kramich. Pfizer, one of GGA’s illustrious clientele wanted an open-source version of Pfizer’s internal chemistry Electronic Laboratory Notebook (ELN) so that it could cost effectively share information with outside partners and vendors. GGA and Pfizer developed Indigo ELN, the open-source version of Pfizer’s internal chemistry electronic lab notebook, which is available for general use, integration, and customization by industry participants including research labs and contract research organizations. The solution provided scientists with a proven way to create, store, retrieve, and share electronic records of chemistry and biology related information in ways that meet all legal, regulatory, technical, and scientific requirements.

Indigo ELN helps these companies prepare, plan, and analyze experiments, access relevant information, and develop new methods using prior experience, in Synthetic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, and Process Chemistry. GGA’s client list also includes other majors like Merck, Novartis, and AstraZeneca as well as high-flying, promising new biopharmaceutical companies.
