Enterprise Analytics Data Transfer to become easy as Microsoft launches new Cloud Tool
FREMONT, CA: Microsoft has launched a preview of an interactive tool called Azure Data Factory Copy Wizard. This would make the jobs of administrators easier to transfer data with Azure Data Factory which is the cloud-based data integration service from Microsoft reports Pedro Hernandez of eWEEK.
The cloud tool provides an innovative approach of moving data between the company's various cloud database offerings without any codes. According to Anand Subbaraj, Principal Program Manager of Microsoft Azure Data Factory, this release by Microsoft will empower customers to move data easily between Azure BlobStorage, Azure SQL, Azure SQL DW, Azure Data Lake and On-Premises SQL Server by using a simple and code-free wizard. Azure Data Factory has been serving as the Cortana Analytics Suite’s backbone. The Analytics Suite is a collection of big data processing, machine-learning and analytics technologies and its data gathering process is automated by Azure Data Factory. This enables enterprises leveraging the Suite to draw from multiple and disparate data sources for their business intelligence (BI) and analytics systems with minimum human intervention.
The time taken by the users to feed data through Azure Data Factory is also minimized by the new wizard tool. The intention of Microsoft behind launching this tool is to make it easy for developers such that they can tap into cloud-scale predictive analytics capabilities and in-turn help data scientist to perform experiments and upload data quickly.
There are 3 major steps involved in setting up the movement of data from an on-premise SQL Server to Azure SQL Data Warehouse. The steps are: Data Selection, Destination Selection, and Settings Configuration. Some technical knowledge of SQL Database activities is required to complete these steps. However, tools for data exploration and schema mapping are provided in the Azure Data Factory Copy Wizard which simplifies the installation process.
